Internship Programme
The Swire Institute of Marine Science (“SWIMS”) is a research facility of The University of Hong Kong, situated at the tip of the Cape d'Aguilar peninsula, on the shores of Hong Kong's only Marine Reserve. The Swire Coastal Outreach Hub (SCOH) is a newly established visitor area and serves as SWIMS' center for science communication.
The SCOH will highlight the role of SWIMS’ scientific research and its contribution to the conservation of Hong Kong’s marine environment. Visitors can also benefit from learning about the diversity of Hong Kong’s marine life with our museum collection, the largest marine specimen collection in Hong Kong.
With ‘Sharing Science to Save our Seas’ as our motto, we are now seeking passionate students to join our internship training programme and help spread knowledge of our amazing marine environment. The main work of the intern will include hosting regular tours for SCOH visitors, supporting operational needs of SCOH, and assisting full time staff with educational workshops and updating our social media pages.

Job description
Interns will participate in the following duties:

Education
-
Host small group tours in the SCOH
-
Assist with educational programmes
-
-
Visitor space operation
-
Support daily operation of SCOH e.g. Touch tank maintenance, opening and closing of SCOH
-
Crowd management
-
-
Communications and outreach (optional)

Social media content management
-
Each intern is required to fulfill a minimum of 160 service hours. University students wishing to fulfil credit-bearing requirements must complete their internship in the current term between the period of 1 September to 13 December.
Requirements

Local tertiary students
-
Major in Ecology, Biology, or Environmental Science is a bonus
-
Passionate about marine science and environmental education
-
Good communication skills in English, Cantonese /Mandarin
-
Willing to be able to work in outdoor environments
This is an unpaid internship. SWIMS will assist the interns to apply for credit-bearing internship courses in their university. A certificate of excellence and reference letters will be provided to interns with outstanding performances.
